What inspired you to start Happiness Is...?
Three reasons. 1. To inspire myself and others. It excites me to no end to discover how many creative people are out there living their dreams. 2. To bring visual art back into my life. 3. To connect with you. I had no idea such a warm and welcoming world existed. Your comments and friendship truly make my days.
Why the title, Happiness Is...?
I have fond childhood memories of the song, Happiness Is, from 'You're A Good Man Charlie Brown'. My dad used it as the soundtrack to one of our home movies. You can watch it here.
Where did you go to school?
University of Southern California. I began as a Vocal Arts major, but ended up getting my BA in Communication when I fell madly in love with my all-female college a capella group. My music instructors frowned upon me singing anything other than opera. I minored in Music Industry.
How did you acquire your blog readership?
With time. I've been at it since 2009, starting off with 3 posts a day for 3 straight years. I also made a point to visit as many other blogs as possible, comment on their posts, and form both online and offline relationships.
How do you stay so positive all the time?
I don't. But this blog helps put things in perspective. Choosing happy subject matter helps me remain focused on the positive. If on the rare occassion I write about something that's bothering me, it's to ask for your help or advice. This blog is a tiny sliver of my life. I try my best to lead a joyful existence, but I go through ups and downs just like everyone else.
I'm visiting Seattle. Tell me where to go and what to see!
I plan on writing a post about my favorite spots in the city, including restaurants, hotels, parks, and shops. Check back soon!
Who created your blog design and header?
I did, using Typepad's theme builder and Photoshop.
How long have you been a vegetarian?
Since I was 4 years old. My parents switched our diet as a family. At that age, I didn't have much of a say in the matter, but as soon as I was old enough to make my own decisions, my research proved it to be a more compassionate way of life that resonated with me personally. I abstain from meat for health, environmental and animal rights reasons.
How did your husband propose to you?
Hal took me on a motorcycle trip and surprised me with a ring during a scenic stop along the road.
