Please welcome Caroline of Greedy Girl...
There's nothing more cringe-inducing and embarrassing than hearing an old "our song" pop up on the radio. Immediately, I skip to the next station. And then I sit there and think about how ridiculous it is that I won't let myself enjoy a song I used to really like because some stupid 17-year-old boy ruined it for me.
That's probably why, in six-ish years of coupledom, Joe and I have never made that next big step—the official designation of "our song." Sure, we love music and, even better, we love each other. And there are plenty of songs that put a smile on my face and make me think of him, and I hope there will be a hundred more like that. But we've never had that conversation.
In thinking about what to write in this post, this song came on, like a sign straight from the great Freddie Mercury. It's always been one of those think-of-Joe-and-smile songs. Even though I typically hate that cliché, "we're best friends! and soulmates! and finish each others' sentences!" stuff, the lyrics of "You're My Best Friend" really do ring true.
So, this is my blog-world-style DJ shout-out to the beautiful Shannon and handsome Hal in celebration of their big day. Kind of like that part in "My Best Friend's Wedding." Except, you know, a little different... in a lot of ways.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
Ooh you make me live
Whatever this world can give to me
It's you, you're all I see
Ooh you make me live now honey
Ooh you make me live
Ooh you're the best friend that I ever had
I've been with you such a long time
You're my sunshine and I want you to know
That my feelings are true
I really love you
Oh you're my best friend
Ooh you make me live
Ooh I've been wandering 'round
But I still come back to you
In rain or shine
You've stood by me, girl
I'm happy at home
You're my best friend
Ooh you make me live
Whenever this world is cruel to me
I got you to help me forgive
Ooh you make me live now honey
Ooh you make me live
You're the first one
When things turn out bad
You know I'll never be lonely
You're my only one
And I love the things
I really love the things that you do
You're my best friend
Ooh you make me live
I'm happy at home
You're my best friend
Oh you're my best friend
Ooh you make me live
You, you're my best friend
